Whether it is a student-let clearout near UCLan or an extension out in Penwortham, we run 2 to 12 yard skips across PR1, PR2 and PR5 with same-day* delivery on a driveway.

*Same-day delivery is subject to availability.
Preston skip demand leans on the university and the landlord market. Student-let and landlord turnovers run through the terraces of central PR1 near UCLan and Avenham, home extensions and garden clearances fill the PR2, PR4 and PR5 suburbs, and the city centre and arterial roads throw up the occasional commercial strip-out. Sizes run from 2 yard mini skips to 12 yard maxis, dropped on a driveway where there is space or placed on the road with a Lancashire County Council permit arranged for you.
The terraced streets off Plungington Road and around New Hall Lane in PR1 are narrow with heavy student-let parking, so a 4 yard or 6 yard skip with a road permit is usually right. The suburban plots in Penwortham and along the Broadgate riverside in PR1 and PR2 have driveways that take an 8 yard skip for a full kitchen or extension clear-out. Fishergate and Friargate in the centre carry bus lanes and pedestrianised stretches, so drops there are timed to the loading windows.
Preston is one of the places where the skip permit does not come from the city council. Lancashire County Council is the highway authority and issues the road permit at £36 per month, asking for two working days’ notice and £5 million public liability cover from the operator, which we hold. We apply on your behalf, saving the common mistake of approaching Preston City Council. On a private driveway no permit is needed, and every hire is delivered through a licensed waste carrier registered with the Environment Agency.
Most general waste is fine: rubble, soil, timber, plasterboard, furniture, mattresses, garden waste, scrap metal, and mixed renovation waste. The main banned items are asbestos, tyres, batteries, paint and liquids, gas canisters, fluorescent tubes, and fridges or freezers, all of which need a separate disposal route.
If you are unsure about a specific item, call us before you load it.

What we handle
In Preston the skip permit is issued by Lancashire County Council, the highway authority, not Preston City Council, a distinction that catches people out. The county charges £36 per month and asks for two working days’ notice, and we submit the application on your behalf. Skips placed on a driveway or private land need no permit.

Common questions
Skip hire in Preston runs from around £160 for a 2 yard and £210 for a 4 yard, up to £305 for an 8 yard and about £420 for a 12 yard, with delivery, collection and disposal included. The road permit is £36 a month and, unusually, comes from Lancashire County Council rather than the city council, added only when the skip goes on the highway.
Because Lancashire County Council is the highway authority for Preston, not Preston City Council, so it issues the skip permit even though the city has its own council. It charges £36 per month, asks for two working days’ notice and requires £5 million public liability cover from the operator, which we hold. We handle the application, which saves people applying to the wrong council.
The terraces off Plungington Road and New Hall Lane in PR1 fill with student lets near the University of Central Lancashire, and a room or two of turnover waste fits a 4 yard skip. A full end-of-year house clearout of furniture and mattresses usually needs a 6 yard, placed with a Lancashire County Council road permit where there is no drive.
Yes. The Penwortham and riverside suburbs across PR1 and PR2 mostly have driveways, so an 8 yard skip for an extension, kitchen or garden clearance often needs no permit at all. Some estates have traffic-calming and narrower closes, so we check the access and turning space before delivery so the lorry can place it cleanly.
Lancashire County Council asks for two working days’ notice on a road permit, so for a kerbside skip in the PR1 terraces off Plungington Road we build that lead time into the booking. For a driveway placement there is no permit and no notice period at all, and same-day delivery is often possible subject to availability.
