How it works

Skip hire without the headache

Three steps from enquiry to collected skip.

  1. 1

    Get a quote

Call us or fill in the form with your location, skip size, and preferred delivery date. We confirm your price and delivery slot quickly, usually within the hour. Same-day delivery is available on most orders placed before 11am, subject to availability.

  2. 2

    We sort everything

If your skip needs to go on the road, we apply to your local council for the skip permit. No forms, no chasing on your end. Permit costs are quoted upfront and vary by council. We know the lead times for every council in our coverage area, so there are no surprises.

  3. 3

    Fill it, we collect

We deliver when agreed and collect once you're done. Standard hire is 14 days, which is enough for most projects. Extensions are available if you need more time. We contact you before collection to confirm, and our drivers are experienced with tight access and awkward spots.

Why Skyward

A skip hire booking service that does the work for you

One quote, one process, with the permits and delivery coordination handled behind the scenes.

  • Honest pricing

The price we quote is the price you pay. We confirm your total upfront, including skip hire, delivery, collection, and the permit fee where one is needed. No charges added on collection day, no fuel surcharges, no small print.

  • Permits arranged on your behalf

If your skip needs to sit on a public road, we arrange the council permit application on your behalf. Permit costs vary by council, from around £15 in some North East boroughs to over £100 in parts of the South West, with lead times of 1 to 12 working days. The fee is confirmed in your quote upfront.

  • Same-day delivery available*

Order before 11am and we can usually deliver the same day, subject to availability. We confirm your delivery slot when you book and the supplier contacts you when the driver is on the way. If same-day is not available we offer the next earliest slot.

  • Local knowledge

Behind the scenes we maintain detailed knowledge of every council we work with, including their permit fees, lead times, placement rules and seasonal restrictions. You see one quote and one process. The local detail is handled for you.

Common questions

Everything you need to know about skip hire

Do I need a permit for a skip?

You need a permit if the skip will be placed on a public road or pavement, anywhere outside your property boundary. If the skip fits on your driveway or private land, no permit is required. Permit costs vary by council, from around £15 in some North East boroughs to over £100 in parts of the South West, with lead times of 1 to 12 working days depending on the council. We arrange the application on your behalf as part of the booking. See our skip permits guide for the full breakdown.

How quickly can you deliver a skip?

Same-day delivery is available across most of our areas for orders placed before 11am, subject to availability. For orders placed after 11am, we will typically deliver the following morning. When you get a quote, we confirm the earliest available delivery slot for your specific location. If you have a deadline, let us know and we will work around it.

What can I put in a skip?

Most general waste is fine: household rubbish, garden waste, soil, rubble, timber, plasterboard, furniture, and construction materials. What you cannot put in a skip includes asbestos, tyres, batteries, paint tins, gas canisters, fluorescent tubes, and any hazardous or clinical waste. These require specialist disposal. See our what can go in a skip guide for the full list and the rules behind each restriction.

How long can I keep the skip?

Standard hire is 14 days, which is enough for most domestic and trade jobs. If you need more time, extensions are available. Just let us know before the end of your hire period and we will arrange it. Collection is booked for a specific date when you order, but we will always contact you beforehand to confirm you are ready.

Which skip size do I need?

For a single-room clearout or small garden job, a 2 yard mini skip is usually enough. A 4 yard midi skip suits kitchen or bathroom renovations. A 6 yard builders skip is the most popular size for general construction and trade use. An 8 yard large skip steps up where a 6 yard would need swapping mid-job, and a 12 yard maxi skip is for full house clearances or large commercial projects. See our skip sizes guide for dimensions, prices and what fits.
